2009 Casa Lapostolle Sauvignon Blanc Rapel Valley, Chile Reg. $14.99 now $10.99

90% Sauvignon Blanc, Las Kuras Vineyard and 10% Semillon, Apalta

The color is pale and clear light yellow with subtle lime hints. On the nose, white nectarine, pear and white flowers dominate also citrus fruit and tangerine. Fresh herbs and mineral notes at the back. Light body with fresh acidity at the beginning followed by a round and concentrated mid palate. Long and fresh finish. Serve chilled as an aperitif. Also the ideal companion for appetizers and seafood in general.

2006 Cape Mentelle Chardonnay Margaret River, Australia Reg. $25.99 now $21.99

Appearance: Pale straw.

Nose: Zesty lemon and grapefruit aromas with lifted floral notes, underpinned by struck flint and ground almonds.

Palate: White peach, fresh figs and pear flavors are supported by a textured, mealy palate.

Subtle oak combines with the fruit to produce savory complexity. The finish is long and clean with great intensity and vibrant, minerally acidity.

Food pairing: Roasted spatchcock with wild herbs and pine nut stuffing, on a bed of honey roasted parsnips and pears, served with steamed broccolini.

This red wine is aged in French oak casks for 9 months in our cellars. Full bodied, with a ripe berry color and spicy aromas on the nose. Toasty and appetizing in the mouth, it has an attractive and elegant finish.

 

2006 Dom Chandon Pinot Meunier Carneros, California Reg. $29.99 now $26.99

The wine is garnet in color with expressive aromas of blackberry, black cherry and raspberry jam with classic Pinot Meunier notes of brown spice, truffles and earth. On the palate, the wine is soft and approachable with supple tannins and balanced acidity. Rich, mouth-filling flavors of huckleberries, cloves, nutmeg, and mushrooms lead to a lingering finish. étoile Chef Christopher Manning and Winemaker James Kress agree the complex earthiness of this wine make it an ideal partner for dishes featuring wild mushrooms and truffles. Its light, soft texture makes it suited to lighter meats such as poultry and fish as well.

Color: Profound cerise with florid, rubicund highlights.

Aroma: Freshly crushed violet flowers envelop a deep core of jam preserves and ripened plums typical of Mendoza´s Vistalba region.

Palate: Racy notes of violet and graphite are followed by mouthfuls of dry cherries and fresh berry fruit. The luscious mid-palate, gives way to powdery tannins and a delicate herbal blend infused finish that adds to complexity.

Color: Inky deep red with bright violet hints.

Nose: Expressive red fruit, with fresh notes of rosemary, white pepper and sweet spices. Elegant oak touches with notes of vanilla and subtle nutmeg.

Palate: Pleasant attack with round and juicy tannins towards the mid palate, finishing with fresh acidity and a long and lasting sensation.

Service and Food Pairing: Ready to drink now or cellar for several years. Decant and serve at 16° C to 18° C (58 to 64° F). Ideal companion for meats and elaborate dishes.

 

Quinta do Portal Fine Tawny Port, Portugal Reg. $23.99 now $21.99
The name "tawny" comes from the color that a Port becomes after having been aged for several years in wood casks. This style of Port makes a marvelous aperitif served chilled with salted almonds or olives. It is also excellent as a dessert Port, served at the 16º-18º C with a crème brulé.
