Jennifer Scarborough, CSW

Even as a baby Jennifer Scarborough was learning the intricacies of the food business at the knee of her mother, owner of the established and popular Homewood restaurant, The Anchorage. Food preparation, accounting, customer service - all the important parts of running a restaurant - she absorbed from an early age, furthering her love of food. Between 1997 and 1999 she attended The Culinary Arts program of  Jefferson State Community College and added new knowledge to her repertoire - the pairing of fine wine and food. During her training, Scarborough worked for the world renowned Birmingham chef, Frank Stitt at his local Highland's Bar and Grill, and Bottega restaurants. It was under his tutelage that her food and wine knowledge began to develop depth and versatility.

 

Since July 2005, Scarborough has managed The Wine Cellar, a specialty store located in Vestavia Hills. Popular among locals, the store is well-regarded for its hand-selected stock chosen for a range of budgets and most importantly - taste. Her breadth of knowledge, her interest in supporting small wineries, and a love of introducing people to new wines, has enabled Scarborough to develop long-lasting and strong connections with her customers.

 

In October 2008, she obtained her Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) and is now an official "Wine Know." She plans to deepen her knowledge by pursuing further certification in the field, and by doing what she does best - learning, tasting, and selecting the world's finest wines for her beloved customers.
